Fees & Insurance

““Nothing in life is as expensive as illness—and stupidity.”
- Sigmund Freud

2026 Fees:

Individual Psychotherapy: $250 per session
Couples Therapy: $275 per session
Psychoanalysis: $150 per session

Many clients receive a 50-80% reimbursement using their out-of-network benefits.

An Investment

Psychotherapy is a meaningful investment financially, emotionally, and personally. It is also a space where that investment often becomes part of the work itself.

People often have understandable questions about the cost of therapy. These questions are not just practical—they are also psychological. In psychotherapy, the “investment” is not only financial. It also involves time, attention, honesty, and a willingness to engage with parts of yourself that may be difficult to face. As Freud noted, “Time and money are the most important conditions of treatment.” The fee is not simply a payment for time. It reflects an investment in self-understanding, emotional freedom, and the capacity to live more fully.

At the same time, many people come to realize that avoiding this kind of work has its own cost: repeating patterns, strained relationships, or a persistent sense of being stuck. Therapy is not a quick fix. It is an investment in understanding yourself more deeply, expanding your emotional life, and creating the possibility for more freedom in how you live and relate to others.

The structure of therapy—showing up consistently, making space for it in your life, and committing resources to it—is part of what makes the work possible.

Insurance & Out-of-Network Benefits

Dr. Koch, Psy.D. is currently in-network with Aetna, CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Sentara. However, he is transitioning away from participation in most health insurance networks and is increasingly operating as an out-of-network provider.

While Dr. Koch, Psy.D. is not in-network with all insurance panels, many clients receive partial reimbursement through out-of-network benefits. If your plan includes these benefits, you may be reimbursed for a portion of each session after meeting your deductible.

Dr. Koch partners with Thrizer to make this process simpler. If you choose, they can:

  • Check your benefits in real time

  • Submit claims on your behalf

  • Help you receive reimbursement directly

This allows many clients to access care while reducing administrative burden.
